College Dorm Supplies

Supplies usually mean expendables. So for College Dorm Supplies that involves munchies and bathroom items, and cleaning materials. Bathroom and cleaning items are easy, munches are much more dependent on the individual.

One of the first discoveries most college students get is that they get to be the one to clean up the messes they make, mom's not around. That goes for the buying the basic cleaning materials too.

Bathroom, personal hygiene, and laundry items are also necessary and I guarantee this is a new frontier for most new college students. Most 18 year olds have never gone shopping for these types of basic necessities and will get to learn some new skills.

Then there are the basic cleaning tools and supplies. Another unknown area to many college students. Cleaning supplies no longer magically appear, you have to go buy them. Of course your Mom will be happy to tell you what may work the best.

The one area of college dorm supplies most students do have some knowledge in is snacks and comfort food. Depending on what appliances you have like coffee maker, refrigerator, and microwave can dictate your choices.

The Basic List of College Dorm Supplies: Here's a good list by category.

Ok, I'm not your mother but you should stick to the healthy and low calorie stuff whenever you can or you will get a lot of extra pounds along with that college degree.

School Items: The one area I'm sure you have some experience with from prior experience. Your going to need the basics. Pencils (pencil sharpener), pens, ruler, highlighters, computer (laptop probably), printer (Ink and paper), and books to be named when you get to class. This should be one area you can cover with little help.

Miscellaneous Items: (everything else not mentioned above)

  • Prescriptions, don't forget to transfer to new location drug store.

  • Special medical equipment or devices

  • Over the counter medicines (aspirin, ibuprofen, cold stuff, cough drops, band aids, etc)

  • Small tool kit

  • Sewing kit

  • Nail clippers

  • First Aid Kit

  • Lint brush

  • Indelible markers

  • Surge protectors or multiple outlet extensions

Miscellaneous covers a lot of ground. Try to think of anything that you need that is necessary for medical or other personal requirements. If you have any prescriptions, transfer them to a local pharmacy.

Before you get there, check to see what retail outlets are in the area. Make sure you can get what you need or make some arrangements to get from home on regular basis. If you have any special medical requirements, find a local doctor or other healthcare resources.

You'll most likely forget something and won't discover it until the need arises. You might want to make sure you have a small emergency fund for any surprises. If you won't have a car, it's a good idea to check out local transportation options too.
